About the Aurora Awards
The Aurora Awards are Canada’s annual English-language Science Fiction and Fantasy Awards.
The Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association (CSFFA) members from across Canada nominate and vote for works done by Canadians. The award winners are determined by consensus using a ranked voting system.
Nominees and winners must be Canadian, as are the members of CSFFA. Membership to CSFFA is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents at a nominal fee.
Auroras have been presented annually since 1980 with the exception of 1984. The name Aurora has been official since 1991.
In 1980 one award was given. Since 1991 awards have been presented in multiple categories, recognizing both professionals and fans.
The Aurora Awards are closest to the Hugo Awards (presented by SF Worldcon members) in the method by which Aurora Awards are selected. Aurora Awards selection details here: https://www.csffa.ca/awards-information/general-awards-process/
The Aurora Awards are financed by CSFFA members (annual $10 memberships).
